Standard test from material testing industry adapted to rock testing to serve as an indentation strength index. 
Performed as per ASTM E10 and complies with the indentation testing requirements of ISRM Blue Book. 
End faces have to be flat for ideal indentation. 
Index can be utilized to develop correlations with UCS or tensile strength value to create continuous profiles of the strength index.
