Plug CT scan slices with CT number profile and a results table of slice ID, mean, standard deviation and depth

Routine Core Analysis

CT Scanning

Scanning core before testing identifies fractures and vugs, establishes whether the material is suitable for geomechanics, petrophysics and flow testing, and provides a quality control record for results.

What we scan

  • Whole core
  • Sidewall core
  • Plug samples
  • Pre-test screening and plug selection
  • Post-test QC of results
  • Scanning plugs reveals heterogeneity and the presence of fractures that are not visible externally, which determines whether a sample is representative enough to carry a test programme.
  • Running the scan first avoids committing time to a plug that will fail or return data that cannot be interpreted.
  • Scanning whole core before plugging is used to select plug locations that avoid existing fractures.
  • On laminated and naturally fractured material this materially improves plug recovery, and it makes the difference between a usable sample set and a partial one when core is limited and cannot be replaced.
